Activities planned for the new triennium

Accomplished in 2007:

To support the organization and consensus process of the the 5th International Symposium on the Diabetic foot 2007 ( ISDF 2007) Noordwijkerhout, May 2007.

Development of a fully updated Consensus/Guidelines document 2007, launched at the 5th International Symposium on the Diabetic Foot May 2007 in Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands and published on a DVD-ROM ( www.idf.org/bookshop).

Further activities:

Publishing of the proceedings of the 5th International Symposium on the Diabetic Foot 2007 (ISDF 2007) in Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews (DMRR), scheduled for May 2008

Implementation of the newly designed Consensus, Practical and Specific Guidelines on the management and prevention of the Diabetic Foot 2007

To support the activities of the IWGDF representative around the world.

Further expansion of the IWGDF country representative’s network.

To carry on the very successfully “Step by Step project, improving diabetes foot care in the developing world” to other developing countries. The first pilot study initiated in 2003, has been successfully executed in India, with participants from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and Tanzania. The project has been funded by the World Diabetes Foundation.

The continued promotion of podiatry training and education worldwide. The IWGDF is in the process of creating licensed Diabetes Foot Care Education programmes to train Foot Care Assistants at different levels for countries were podiatry education does not yet exist. A working group has been installed.

Stimulation the development and execution of Randomized Control Trials (RCT’s) in order to improve evidence based management of the diabetic foot.

Participation on the UN Resolution Implementation programme 2007, by participating in foot care projects as the Step by Step initiative in developing countries.

Support and stimulation of other local and regional foot care initiatives and meetings.
